One of the leading cosmetic procedures today is Botox. It is and continues to gain more popularity among old and young people alike who want smooth, flawless tight skin. And if you know me at all you would probably know I am a huge advocate. This day in age of social media has made everyone conscious of how they look, and everyone wants to stay relevant and look younger and younger. (I mean why not?) More and more people are opting for Botox for the benefits they boast. Not only Botox are relatively inexpensive but the convenience with which they can be performed at the Dermatologist clinic makes them very lucrative.

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered where all the wrinkles and fine lines appeared from? It is a very common occurrence for me to look in the mirror and get shocked by the crow feet around my eyes or the added line or two in already 'very much their' smile lines. It is precisely then I thank God for BOTOX! We are ever so grateful for these injections that do miracles to reverse our age and make us look younger.

It is not easy to digest the fact that your once baby's soft skin is getting saggy and wrinkled as you age. It is very difficult to age as it is but to come to terms with the aesthetic changes to your face that are not so pleasing is near to impossible. Who likes to have lines between their brows and look like they are scowling 24/7? Or have wrinkles that make your skin look pleated?

So have you ever thought about why you get wrinkles as you age? If there is anything you can do to resolve this situation? And is Botox the only effective way to look younger year after year?

Why do we get wrinkles?

Whether we approve of them are not, wrinkles are a normal part of the aging process. These lines and folds are of two types:

· Dynamic lines like crow feet or smile lines come and go as your expressions change and are not as permanent or apparent on your face as static lines.

· Static lines are permanent lines that appear on the face with age and are more permanent. These are the result of the loss of elasticity in our skin. With time, even with an immaculate skincare routine, the elastin and collagen deposit in your skin starts degrading, leaving the skin inelastic and losing the form, creating folds.

Is Botox that dynamic solution for our wrinkle problems?

Botox is a neurotoxin compound known as botulinum toxin that is injected into the desired area. It takes about 3-10 days to finally work its magic and after that, you can see very drastic changes in your appearance. What it does is that it paralyzes the muscle temporarily by blocking the nerve signals of that area and stops it from fielding, minimizing the lines and diminishing the wrinkles for as long as the active ingredient is working, normally can range from anywhere between 3 to 7 months.

You can get Botox done in the following areas of your face:

· Wrinkles between your eyebrows known as frown lines.

· Wrinkles at the corner of the mouth or to fix a gummy smile.

· Wrinkles around corners of the eye that are called crow’s feet

· Cobblestone skin is usually on the chin.

This works well for dynamic lines but you can see good results when used for static lines as well. Botox leaves our skin feeling smooth and firm and makes us look much younger and fresh. Some people get Botox done as it makes them feel rejuvenated and confident. Whatever reasons you choose to go for Botox, it is your body, your face and you should be the one making decisions for it. It is you who gets to decide whether you want to age and embrace all your wrinkles and folds or you would rather go for Botox and enjoy a youthful appearance a little longer. I know what I will choose!
